SMS (text messages) can be sent from all mobile phones. You can send and receive text messages just as you do in Norway when you are abroad.
MMS (multimedia messages) is a further development of the SMS. With MMS you can send and receive images, sound, and text in one single message. If your phone is equipped with a digital camera this feature offers new opportunities in connection with both work and leisure. To send MMS you need a mobile phone that supports this feature.
GPRS is used for data transfer and is an extension of the current GSM network. WAP and MMS are examples of features that utilize GPRS. With GPRS you only pay for the amount of data transferred, no matter how long you stay connected. To use GPRS you need a mobile phone that supports it.
EDGE is a further expansion of the GSM network. EDGE offers you considerably faster data transfer compared to GPRS, otherwise the properties are the same. As a customer you will find that several of the current mobile services work better and faster with EDGE, and that a number of 3G-features can be delivered with good quality, for example mobile TV. To use EDGE you need a mobile phone that supports it.
3G and UMTS are terms used for third generation mobile network. 3G is primarily designed to support the full range of services from voice, SMS, high-speed data transfer, and multimedia services. 3G will improve the quality of current mobile services, and you will have access to new and exciting services in the future. Transfer speeds up to 384 kb/s will vastly improve the efficiency of mobile work. Video telephony is a new service supported by 3G. With video telephony you can see the person you are talking to.
You do not have to change your subscription, telephone number, or SIM card to get 3G. The only thing you need to do is to buy a mobile phone that supports 3G. 3G phones support GSM, ensuring that whenever you are outside the 3G coverage area your phone will work as a GSM phone. A symbol on your phone will indicate whether you are inside or outside the 3G coverage area.
Telio’s Data Roaming Cost Control service protects you from unexpectedly high mobile phone bills when you use data roaming services abroad. Data Roaming Cost Control applies to all countries outside Norway, but since the cut-off limit for data roaming services is based on data volume, the cost will vary depending on your location. Incoming calls to your mobile phone can be forwarded to any fixed line or mobile phone, domestic or abroad, including your voicemail. You can choose to forward all incoming calls directly, or name specific conditions for redirect. Call Forwarding will not affect your outgoing calls. Please remember that forwarded calls are treated as outgoing calls and that additional charges will apply, the cost depending on the number you forward the calls to.
Call Waiting allows you to accept a new incoming call while you are already engaged, placing the first call on hold. The feature also allows you to switch between the two calls. A beep alerts you if you receive another incoming call while you are on the phone. The person calling you will not get a busy signal, but hear the phone ring as normal. Call Waiting can be activated through the menu on your mobile phone (see phone manual).
Telio Voicemail is your personal answering service, receiving messages for you if you turn off your phone, lose coverage, or if you are busy. With Telio Voicemail you are available 24 hours a day, but you are free to choose if and when you want to answer your phone. Telio Voicemail makes sure you receive all important messages even though you are not able to answer right away. You can check your messages whenever and wherever you like.
Telio Voicemail and Fax offers you the opportunity to receive faxes in addition to your own personal answering service. You can decide which fax machine you want to print the faxes on. The faxes are sent directly to your Voicemail number. Whenever you receive a fax you will be notified by an text message sent to your mobile phone.
